Rev. Norman A. Tate is a native of Chicago, Illinois, where he attended public schools. After graduating from high school, he relocated to Washington, D.C. and graduated in 1977 from the Washington Bible College in Lanham, Maryland. From 1973 until 1979, he held the positions of Youth Pastor and Director of Christian Education at the First Baptist Church New Hampshire Avenue.
In 1979, he received a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies, as well as a Master of Divinity degree in 1983 from the Howard University School of Divinity. He is also a recipient of the H. G. Maynard Award, an honor granted to the Howard Divinity student demonstrating excellence in the area of preaching and ministry. Rev. Tate is presently a Doctor of Ministry candidate at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
